Volume II

The journey of knowing yourself starts internally, and then externally.

There is an old saying, “You don’t know where you’re going until you know where you’ve been”. Same can be said about myself and art.

Volume I focused on the artists of the past, the 19th Century and the 20th Century. It delved into my life as a child and as a teenager.

Volume II focuses on the artists of this century. In particular, the artists who live in London.

All my life I have lived in Neasden, but it is time to leave this small town in North West London and explore the rest of London.

“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture are like a tree without roots”, Marcus Garvey.

Volume I gave you the origins of who I am and our current art world. Volume II gives you the direction of the two.

Disclaimer: Volume II is not a monthly biography of different artists.

The blog is called MemoirsbyChard. A memoir is defined as “a historical account that a person writes, based on a moment or an event, that took place in the person’s life”. That person is me. Each memoir in Volume II will begin with me. Then conclude with the artist’s life and their art.

I will talk about many artists within the capital, from the famous to the upcoming. But just like Volume I, I will talk about me, the trials and the tribulations. So, enjoy the anecdotes and the artists.
