2018 was the year memoirsbychard was created. At first, it started as an art history platform with Volume I, but over time it morphed into a platform that covers contemporary art and art fairs.
Between 2019 and 2021, and across Volume II and Volume III, I conducted 20 interviews with artists from across the globe, with names such as Adébayo Bolaji, Sola Olulode, Aisha Rosli, Bony Ramirez, Larissa De Jesús Negrón and Cydne Jasmin Coleby. With all these interviews, my goal was simple: to tell the story of each artist I encountered. I wanted to explore a topic with each interview, from masculinity to Britain’s Black art movement. All of these topics were woven into the artist’s journey and their work (from the earliest work to the latest work)
During the latter part of 2021, I started to attend art fairs, and in 2022, I transitioned to covering art fairs with mini-memoirs. Across the year, I covered fairs such as Frieze, Venice Biennale and London Art Fair.
As an art writer, my intentions are to simply capture the emerging and celebrate the established, and because of that, I created this independent platform, memoirsbychard
